Hookah

Common Names: shisha, goza, hubble-bubble, borry, arhile, and narghile

Appearance:Shisha tobacco usually has a damp and sticky appearance. Shisha is usually smoked out of a hookah water pipe. The tobacco is heated in the bowl at the top of the hookah and the smoke is filtered through the water in the base. Today’s shisha is 30% tobacco and 70% fruit flavorings, molasses, and/or honey and it usually comes in a variety of flavors.

Effects:Researchers have pointed out that the charcoal used in hookah smoking may be hazardous, introducing dangerous substances into the smoke. Research has shown that one hour of smoking a hookah pipe exposes the user to 100 to 200 times the volume of smoke of a single cigarette. The smoke also has high levels of arsenic, lead and nickel, 36 times the tar of a single cigarette and 15 times the carbon monoxide.
