Oxycontin

OxyContin and Vicodin are prescription painkillers used for moderate to high pain relief associated with injuries, bursitis, dislocations, fractures, neuralgia, arthritis, lower back pain, and pain associated with cancer.




Common Names: Kicker, OC, Oxy, OX, Blue, Oxycotton, Hillybilly Heroin

Appearance: The drug is most often administered orally. Tablets/caplets with "OC" on one side, "10," "20," "40," "80" or "160" on the other. (Numbers reflect mg dosage.)

Effects: OxyContin and Vicodin is often taken for recreational use because it gives a euphoric body high. Pharmacological effects include analgesia, sedation, euphoria, feelings of relaxation, respiratory depression, constipation, papillary constriction, and cough suppression. Behavioral effects can last up to 5 hours. The controlled-release product, OxyContin, has a longer duration of action (8-12 hours). The most serious risk associated with OxyContin and Vicodin is respiratory depression. Common side effects are constipation, nausea, sedation, dizziness, vomiting, headache, dry mouth, sweating, and weakness.
