Students Teaching Alcohol and drug Responsibility (STAR) Interns
STAR peer educators
are students trained to provide accurate information about the effects of alcohol
and other drugs and to give helpful tips on how to avoid harmful outcomes when using
such substances. Their goal is not to prohibit or stigmatize alcohol and other drug
use, just to reduce the harmful outcomes that can results from high-risk use.
- Take ED191B Alcohol and Drugs which is listed thru the Education Department: In
this training class you will learn how to be an effective peer health intern and
the basics of the alcohol and drugs. Applications for the training class are accepted
on the first day of class.

At the end of the training class, you can apply for
the STAR peer health internship. Applications for the internship must be submitted
to your advisor by noon on the last day of instruction.

Health And Wellness Chairs (HAWC)
Students living in the Res Halls who would like to become a peer educator can run
for an elected position as a Health And Wellness Chairs (HAWC). This position is
elected each Fall as a part of the Residence Hall Association elections and they
serve as a bridge between Res Life and Health Education. There is one HAWC in each
Res Hall and they serve from Fall through the end of the school year. For more information
