Gauchos for Recovery Meetings 

Mondays and Thursdays at 7:30 AM   Morning Meditation Meeting - Hybrid format - peer led meeting 
This is a student led meeting based on 12 step principles. It meets twice a week for a meditation practice.

Mondays at 7:30 PM   Rainbow Recovery - LGBTQIA+ (including allies) - peer led meeting (no meeting 4/1) 
Student-led meeting, open to those in any type of or stage of recovery, as well as those considering recovery. Specifically serving those who identify as LGBTQIA+ and allies.

Tuesdays at 6 PM  Ready to Make a Change? Harm Reduction Meeting - facilitated by Gauchos for Recovery Staff 
Staff led peer support meeting based on principles of harm reduction. The goal of this meeting is to support students who want to make a change in their substance use, even if abstinence is not their goal.

Community Recovery Meetings hosted in the GFR Lounge

Thursdays at 5:00 PM  Queer Trans Harm Reduction Meeting

A peer support group for Queer and Trans undergraduate and graduate students across the UC-system in or seeking recovery, practicing harm reduction, struggling with substance use or anything in between. Potential topics include moderating use, responding to triggers, exploring alternate coping strategies, identity and substance use, navigating relationships and more. All are welcome.

12-step group for loved ones of people with substance use disorders. Facilitated by members of Alanon.

Saturdays at 8:00 PM  "Eye of the Storm" Alternative 12-Step Recovery Meeting (Hybrid Format)
Open Meeting for anyone in recovery or considering recovery. It is not a formal 12-step program, but discussion may center around the concepts of the 12 steps.

Open, co-ed 12-step meeting with a focus on "Healing In Community." This meeting is facilitated by student members of SLAA.

There are MANY more virtual recovery meetings being offered nationwide! 

GFR offers many other opportunities for support and engagement to enhance your recovery, including:

  • Community support meetings (such as 12-step and open recovery) throughout the week
  • GFR student organization meetings 1-2 times per quarter
  • Regular fellowship activities such as "unity nights," social events and outings, off-campus retreats, etc.
  • Quarterly large-scale events to raise awareness about addiction and recovery

SMART Recovery

SMART is a science-based peer support group for those considering or trying to maintain recovery from substance use. It is focused on self-empowerment and uses science-based skill building. Groups are free and open to all. 

Isla Vista SMART Recovery is currently not being offered, but we hope to resume soon.
