Your Role in Prevention

As a faculty or staff member, you are a key stakeholder in helping to address alcohol and drug use on campus. At times, you will have contact with students whose attitudes or behaviors may cause you concern, discomfort, or interfere in the education of other students. As a faculty or staff member, interacting daily with students, you are in an excellent position to recognize behavior changes in a student with an alcohol and/or drug problem. We encourage you to talk about alcohol and drugs with students and refer them to the UCSB Alcohol & Drug Program as appropriate.

UCSB’s Alcohol & Drug Program offers one-on-one, free, confidential counseling and education about alcohol and drugs and addictive behaviors.

If you know a student who you believe may have an alcohol or drug problem, you can refer them to the UCSB Alcohol & Drug Program where they can check in about their alcohol and/or drug use. You can also contact us if you have questions about the behavior of someone who you suspect might have a problem.
